To refine the constructability of the design, the curved surface was further optimized using Grasshopper and Kangaroo. Each cell was iteratively recalibrated until it achieved a flat planar condition. This step was essential to ensure that the pyramidal modules could sit precisely on the surface without distortion or gap

Each pyramid was assigned a unique identification number and then unrolled from the curved surface onto a flat plan. By numbering and laying out the components in this way, fabrication becomes straightforward: every pyramid can be manufactured individually and later matched precisely to its intended position on the surface. This system ensures both ease of production and accuracy during assembly.

The Feather Reception Desk reimagines the traditional bulky reception counter by drawing inspiration from the fluidity and lightness of a feather. Instead of appearing heavy and monolithic, the design embodies movement, elegance, and delicacy, creating a welcoming centerpiece for visitors.

The desk’s outer surface flows in a continuous, sweeping curve, echoing the soft contour of a feather’s vane. In contrast, the inner surface is articulated with pyramidal modules,  producing a dynamic interplay of light and shadow.

To ensure both constructability and precision, the form was optimized using Grasshopper. The surface was subdivided into a grid, and each panel was computationally adjusted to achieve planarity, providing a flat base for the pyramids to attach seamlessly. A color-coded analysis guided refinements, ensuring structural feasibility while preserving the fluid gesture of the form.

Each pyramid was then assigned a unique number and unrolled onto a flat fabrication plan, making the manufacturing process straightforward and the assembly process highly accurate. This system allows the curved geometry to be constructed with minimal complexity.

The result is a reception desk that merges organic inspiration with digital precision, lightweight in appearance, tactile in experience, and efficient in construction. It offers a new approach to reception design: one that conveys openness, refinement, and a sense of movement.
