This project explores the integration of prefabricated concrete roof modules as both structural and daylighting devices for a swimming pool facility. Each module is tilted at an angle to reflect indirect daylight into the interior while remaining open to the north to prevent direct solar penetration. Inspired by Alvar Aalto\u2019s Auditorium of the Institute of Technology, the design adopts varying slit openings in the modules to control the amount and quality of daylight. A series of daylight simulations informed the correlations between opening size, orientation, and daylight performance, allowing the modules to adapt to different programmatic needs.<\/p>

The spatial organization begins with the swimming pool positioned along the southern side of the building, where daylight simulations demonstrated a stronger distribution of reflected light. Supplementary programs are arranged around the pool, with roof modules of different configurations strategically deployed across the spatial grid. Additional daylighting strategies include extending the modules as canopies, introducing high-level horizontal strip glazing on the east, west, and north fa\u00e7ades, and incorporating top-protected side openings beneath the canopy. A suspended wall along the south fa\u00e7ade creates a visual connection between the pool and the outdoors, though early tests revealed this gesture introduced significant glare. Subsequent iterations reduced the size and number of openings while maintaining the indoor-outdoor connection, and supplemented daylight with horizontal strip glazing on the south.<\/p>

The design iterations demonstrated measurable improvements in daylight performance. Daylight factor values around the pool stabilized at approximately 5%, while excessive glare decreased dramatically from 37% to just 2.7%. Autonomous illuminance coverage improved from 81% to 85% of the occupied area, ensuring well-lit spaces throughout the day. This performance-driven design approach shows how carefully calibrated roof modules can balance light, comfort, and architectural expression, shaping a pool environment defined by its luminous roofscape.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
